Στα χνάρια της μητέρας του, πριγκίπισσας Νταϊάνας, περπάτησε την Παρασκευή στην Αγκόλα, ο πρίγκιπας Χάρι, στο πλαίσο της περιοδείας του στη νότια Αφρική.

Πριν από 22 χρόνια, η Lady D είχε περπατήσει σε ενεργό ναρκοπέδιο της Αγκόλας, στο Χουάμπο, φορώντας προστατευτική στολή, για να κάνει γνωστό σε όλο τον κόσμο το πρόβλημα με τις νάρκες που ήταν σπαρμένες σε όλη την αφρικανική χώρα και είχαν προκαλέσει τον θάνατο και τον ακρωτηριασμό χιλιάδων ανθρώπων. Οι φωτογραφίες της έκαναν τον γύρο του πλανήτη και έφεραν στο φως ένα άγνωστο στους πολλούς ζήτημα.

Ηταν το 1997, λίγους μόλις μήνες πριν τον τραγικό θάνατό της στο Παρίσι, και η Νταϊάνα με αυτή της την κίνηση άλλαξε τον ρου της ιστορίας για αυτή την αφρικανική χώρα. Σήμερα, στην ίδια περιοχή, βρίσκεται μία κοινότητα που σφύζει από ζωή, με επιχειρήσεις, σχολεία και κατοικίες.

Παράλληλα, χάρη και στις δικές της προσπάθειες, 164 κράτη υπέγραψαν μία συνθήκη κατά των ναρκών, στην Οτάβα του Καναδά, το 1999.

Υποχρέωση της Αγκόλας είναι να καθαρίσει εντελώς από τις νάρκες στο έδαφός της, μέχρι το 2025.

Παρά τη μεγάλη πρόοδο διεθνώς, 60 εκατ. άνθρωποι παραμένουν σε κίνδυνο από τις νάρκες, που βρίσκονται διάσπαρτες σε πολλές χώρες.

Ο Χάρι ανέβασε στο Instagram μια φωτογραφία της μητέρας του και στη συνέχεια μία δική του, στέλνοντας  μήνυμα για την απαγόρευση των όπλων και την προστασία της ζωής των ανθρώπων, και κυρίως των παιδιών.

The Duke is humbled to be visiting a place and a community that was so special to his mother, and to recognise her tireless mission as an advocate for all those she felt needed her voice the most, even if the issue was not universally popular. Princess Diana’s visit helped change the course of history, and directly led to the Convention against Anti-Personal Landmines, also known as the Ottawa Treaty. Today, with the support of @thehalotrust, Angola now has a stated aim under the Treaty to be clear of known mines by 2025. Despite great progress, 60 million people worldwide still live in fear of landmines every day. Following in the footsteps of his mother, Princess Diana, this morning The Duke of Sussex visited a de-mining site in Dirico, Angola, to raise awareness of the danger and prevalence of landmines that still exists today.
